Repeaters

Br 08 operates a 2 metre repeater “Gore 695” situated on the Hokonui hills not far from “High Peak”. It is a Hamtronics unit and has several interesting features.

It has a beep on the tail and users are encouraged to start transmitting before the 5 sec tail drops out. This still gives other users wanting to break in time to access. It also has a CWID or alternatively a voice announcement can be switched on to broadcast a message approximately every 25.5 minutes. It is coupled to “Wacom” filters and feeds into a dipole antenna. The trustees have remote control over many functions.

“GOR” AX.25 packet repeater is situated on Pukerau Hill and provides a link between ZL4GQ BBS and DUD at Highcliff Dunedin and the Otago branch BBS at the branch clubrooms. It uses a “Tiny 2” modem and a IC 22s transceiver with a collinear antenna. It is also used by hams in the Eastern Southland area to access ZL4GQ BBS.

We are currently looking at options to extend the National System into Southland.
